Community Solar for NYC residents

Grouphug is proud to partner with Solstice to promote a new opportunity for urban renters to go solar! Residents of New York City can now join a local community solar program, support renewable energy right here in the city, and enjoy an estimated 10% savings on their electric bills with no installation or added fees. Plus, Solstice is adding in a $100 bonus for all new subscribers to this project.

Solstice’s community solar projects are being built on New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) rooftops and its benefits are being directed back to the NYCHA community and beyond. Our program is designed so that you will never pay extra on your bills – you will always save money. Finally, an electric bill you’ll love!

This opportunity is part of NYCHA’s Community Shared Solar program, which leverages the power of distributed generation to provide low-cost solar energy to more New Yorkers. This program also provides job opportunities for NYCHA residents to help build the systems, and lease revenue to the NYCHA developments hosting these third-party-owned systems.

A solar farm gets built in your community. Local households like yours can sign up for a share of the farm, which is like having your own panels, but off your property. Your solar share will produce energy on your behalf all year round.

Your solar share sends power through your utility’s power grid, so there’s no need to install anything on your home. You’ll get credits for the power your solar share produces applied directly to your monthly utility bill, bringing it down.

You will receive your electricity as normal--no change to your everyday life, except for the savings you get on your bills and the good feeling that comes with going green. Congrats! You finally get to benefit from clean energy.
